The 2015 Interchange Fee Regulation in Europe capped interchange at 0.2% for debit transactions and 0.3% for credit. These caps apply to all consumer domestic and intra-regional transactions (where both the merchant and cardholder are within the EEA). Scheme fees, along with interchange on other transaction types were not included.
In CMSPI’s Impact Assessment Report, we analyse the latest set of changes to scheme and interchange fees for European merchants. Our findings suggest that these changes will cost European businesses over €100 million annually.
