The Bank of England recently announced that the £50 note will join the £5, £10 and £20 notes in the switch from paper to polymer.

£5 and £10 notes have already switched from paper to polymer material (a more durable and harder to counterfeit material), and the £20 note will be issued in 2020. The £50 note is due to be released after the £20 note but specific details have not been released yet.

In a press release, Sarah John, the Bank’s Chief Cashier, said: “I’m very excited to be starting the process of introducing a new £50 note. At the Bank, we are committed to providing the public with high quality notes they can use with confidence. Moving the £50 note onto polymer is an important next step to ensure that we can continue to do that.”
