This event is in the pastCard Costs and Regulation: A Review of Cost Trends and Policy Interventions in APAC
Across Asia-Pacific, regulatory interventions aimed at alleviating rising card fees and establishing a more efficient payments landscape have had huge impacts on the card-acceptance markets in each respective country. These regulatory interventions can be viewed as introducing competition and controls within the card market and competition with the card market through investment in local payment methods. Within card markets, regulators have enacted a variety of interventions, such as setting the maximum price of interchange, mandating co-badging, or guaranteeing merchant surcharging rights. Interventions seeking to enhance competition with the card market have led to the rise of APMs such as PayTo in Australia or UPI in India.
Join this session to understand the relationship between payments regulations and costs in the region, with a data-first focus.
